A weekly roundup of favorites in the world of a gamer girl social media geek. Get ready to discover books, podcasts, apps, social media tips, good news and more as we journey through the digital life.
It’s been a crazy week and I just got back from an academic conference in Asheville and I’m co-chairing a conference this coming weekend. In this episode I talk about some Asheville favorites, Star Wars, Downtown Abbey, and living with a deadly food allergy.
While we were in Asheville we visited the Biltmore Estate - the largest home in America built by George and Edith Vanderbilt. It is overwhelming - and tiring. The house truly has a stunning history, and its residents seem to also have a history of giving to the community. It does make one wonder what would Asheville have become without the influence of Biltmore.
Coming in November and staying through the first of April, there will be a Downtown Abbey exhibit. I have to say that the thought of Christmas at Biltmore combined with Downtown Abbey is quite tempting. Here is the trailer:
I went to see the Downtown Abbey movie with some friends from the conference. I was afraid the movie wouldn’t make sense - but it did! I actually loved it. It’s just a feel-good film that creates drama with characters, music, and setting. So, I’ll probably be binge-watching the series here soon.
Karen Hallion’s latest Patreon print with a Downtown Abbey theme. You can see it here on her Facebook page and as well as the pin of Maggie Smith’s character. On my other podcast, The Geeky Side, Wil and I talked about how Galaxy’s Edge and how attendance records haven’t been what was expected. After reading Dan Amrich’s article about his Disney Bounding experience, I want to do a costume for when we do go - well a Disney Bounding outfit I should say. Disney wrote a blog post to help visitors to understand better what they can wear to the park - the Amrichs actually got pulled out of line because the guards thought they were cast members. I actually started looking at my Flourishing Planner - and I have my goals set up for the fourth quarter of the year. You can get a free set of the Momentum Planner here. I’m trying to take a hard look at what I am saying yes to over the next three months and as I plan 2020 when I’m trying to be more aware of what I agree to do. Starting with this podcast, I’m trying to say yes to things that feed my soul and my life and not other things. I wish I had an app to help with this - so if you have one - drop me a line at [email protected], because I need the help! I wanted to share with you one of my favorite puzzle apps. I have been enjoying Puzzle Page for over a year. I’m on my second year of having the yearly subscription. It’s $36 which is a little pricey - but it gives me 7-8 puzzles to solve from words searches to sudokus and crosswords as well as picture puzzles. Peace and Paws rescue is my feel-good page this week. Check them out on Facebook (and Instagram) account - they just give me so much joy with their posts. Stay tuned for next week where I have no idea what I’ll be talking about - but I promise it will be where geek meets social in the digital life.
